The $70 billion diet industry has done a great job of teaching us how to hate ourselves, and packaging up a shiny new life in the form of a pill bottle, a wrap, a skinny tea, or a new diet plan.
I know what it’s like to have that “f*ck it” moment at the end of the day, ending up having eaten most of the contents of my fridge and pantry, telling myself that “my new life starts tomorrow!”, then spending money, time & energy watching my calories, carbs, fill-in-the-blank-gimmick all the while continuing to hate myself. Maybe I even reach my goal weight, which should make me happy, right??? But what happens in reality is that my body may appear different on the outside, but now I’m even more obsessed about my body, and I have to try even harder than ever to keep my weight where it is because I’ve ended up at a weight that doesn’t align with my body. So then you try to lose even more weight, hoping that the answer lies within the number on the scale…. Only once again… it doesn’t.
And where does this dieting cycle leave you? Depleted, obsessed, and feeling more isolated than ever before.
Because you realize that the promises that were made to you were complete lies. It’s devastating, I get it.
So where do we go from here? Well, you know that excitement you felt at the prospect of starting a new life? What if you could live with that excitement for what you have right now? What if you could live that “dream life”- the adventures, the partner, the job, the hobbies- with the body you currently inhabit? Why continue to put your life on hold until you’re in a smaller body, when life is HERE right now waiting for you to LIVE IT?
Your body hasn’t failed at dieting, dieting has failed you. So kick that crap to the curb and step into the fabulous life you have right now.
